Magny Cours

Magny Cours 2010
Well the tub is repaired, the car has been put back together and we're now out in Magny Cours for the third meeting of the season.
I've never driven the circuit before, but with 3 hours of testing time on Friday I'll have a good opportunity to familiarise myself with
Testing at Magny Cours today, prior to qualifying and race one tomorrow. We feel that the problems we had at Silverstone are now
fixed and the car is running well, further changes to the set up will help improve our times.
We steadily improved throughout the 3 hours testing, although we missed out on fully using our second set of new tyres and
improving our times due to an end of session red flag.
I'm looking forward to qualifying tomorrow, hopefully we'll find more time through the setup of the car and also myself as I
continue to learn the circuit.
Qualifying and Race 1
Qualifying this morning was slightly disappointing as I only achieved a start of 16th for the first race today and 17th for the third
race on Sunday. However, the day got better and in this afternoon's race I gained 4 places at the start and due to other retirements
I finished in 10th place.
This is a good result, considering the recent problems we've had and I'm grateful to Litespeed for the hard work they've put in to
get the car back into race condition. Of course, there's still plenty of work to do to the setup, but we're all encouraged to start
seeing results. I start 10th on the grid for the second race, so there's a good opportunity to finish in the points again.
Race 2
In Sunday's first race I again made a good start from 10th place, and was holding this position until the race was red flagged. After
the restart, I initially lost 10th place but gained it back due to retirements by other drivers.
Later on I discovered that I'd actually been classified as 9th which is even better for myself and the team. After the chassis repair
we've basically had to setup the car from scratch and I'm happy that we've made good progress with it so far. The last race of the
meeting is 40 minutes long and is going to be challenging not only because of the hot weather, but also because I start from 17th
on the grid. I always relish a challenge though!
Race 3
The third race at Magny Cours did not produce an ending to the weekend that I was hoping for. I initially gained 4 places and was
running in 13th place but unfortunately, halfway through the race I lost the ability to select gears. Once back in the pits we
discovered this was due to a broken gear cable, something that cannot be fixed during the race and I was forced to retire.
Overall, it's been a good weekend and I'm happy with the progress we've made with the car since its chassis repair. We'll continue
to fine tune the set up at Hockenheim and hopefully see further improvements.
